Gene Taggett

Gene Taggett, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Hills & Dales General Hospital in Cass City. He was born on May 27, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois to the late A. Earl and Helen (Anderson) Taggett. Genes family moved to Caro when he was 10. On March 22, 1958 Gene married the former Janet Holdburg in Caro. He served two years in the U.S. Army and worked over thirty-three years at Grey Iron Foundry. If you were to ask Gene if he had any hobbies he would reply, “Yes, work.” He loved farming. His “tool shed” was his “toy shop.” Gene taught welding for four years at the Tech Center and spent three years amateur black-smithing. His business card reads “Unusual is Our Specialty.” We would say Gene was special. Not only was he hard working, he always seemed to find time to help others. Gene was a 4-H leader for thirty-five years. He served on the Council for over thirty years and as president for six years. He was a member of the Lions Club and the American Legion. Gene helped make floats for the Pumpkin Festival, and also enjoyed beekeeping. He was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Janet; two sons, Gregg Taggett and friend, Dawn, and Gil Taggett and friend, Allison; his sister, Gloryanna (Gerald) Post; two brothers, Gordon (Mary) Taggett and Gary (Janet) Taggett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, George Taggett. The funeral service will be held at the Caro United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Gregg Mayberry officiating. In accordance with Genes wishes, cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Caro United Methodist Church or the charity of the donors choice.
