George "Wayne" Butcher of Caseville, formerly of Caro, age 79, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021 following a lengthy illness. Wayne was born in Cass City, the son of the late George and Arlene (Vaughan) Butcher. He was a 1960 graduate of Caro High School where he was active in Future Farmers of America and remained in Caro for most of his life, spending his later years in Caseville. He was united in marriage with Martha Anderson on August 3, 1963 in Caro. Wayne experienced times that were hard for family farms to survive. He became a conservative yet progressive farmer who researched and worked very hard to produce high yields with low overhead. He was known in the community as a kind person and successful farmer. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, served on the Columbia Township Board of Review and was a member of the Pigeon Co-op. Due to Parkinson's disease, he retired earlier than planned, and he and Martha built a home on their property in Caseville. Wayne turned his attention to grooming the beaches for neighbors and helping them with his innovative skills. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida and making new friends. Wayne and Martha cared for numerous foster children in their earlier years with several of whom they have had lifelong relationships with. He loved his grandchildren and built many good memories with them. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Martha Butcher; his son, Michael (Jane) Butcher; and grandchildren, Jacob Butcher and Kelsey (Brandon) Havercamp; great-grandson, Wyatt Havercamp; son, George B. Butcher; brother, James (Anita) Butcher. Also surviving are Sally (Andy) Kushion and family, and Mary (Gerald) Hass and family. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, Sam and Lorraine Anderson; nephew, Jordan Meyer; and brother-in-law, James Meyer. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Satchell's Christian Retirement Home and Residential Hospice for their expert and loving care.
