George L. Gardy passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon with family at his side, at the age of 87.
He was born February 20, 1924 in Flint, Michigan, the son of the late George A. Gardy and Mary (Siewert) Gardy. George attended Mt. Morris High School and moved to the Bay Port area in 1946. George worked for the Wallace Stone Company in Bay Port for 43 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Bay Port United Methodist Church, serving on the Administrative Board for many years. George was an avid supporter of Laker High School athletics and an active member of the Laker Athletic Boosters Club since it began. He was also a member of the Masons Hubbard-Winsor Lodge #420.
George loved hunting and fishing and attending his children and grandchildren's athletic events for many years. George married Irene Roeber on July 18, 1947 in Pigeon, and they enjoyed 64 wonderful years side by side, she survives him. He is also survived by a son, George (Linda) Gardy of Pigeon and three daughters, Gail (Rich) Finley of Gilbert, Arizona, Peggy (David) Gunns of Mason and Susan (Michael) Flores of Holt. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Jill (Adrian) Hill, Kari (Matt) Halvorsen, Eric (Jenny) Gardy, Kevin (Sheri) Gunns, Kelly Gunns, Miranda and Royce Sperry; two step-grandchildren, Daniel (Rianna) Flores and Anthony Flores both of Lansing; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, William (Joyce) Gardy of Pentwater and Max (Sharon) Gardy of Vassar; sister-in-law, Zola Roeber; brother-in-law, George (Virginia) Roeber; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Bay Port United Methodist Church, 838 N. Second St., Bay Port. Burial will take place at New Bay Port Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon
on Friday, November 25, 2011, from 2-8 p.m.
Visiting on Saturday will begin at the church
at 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m
