George Lawrence “Larry” Girvan III, 77, of Pigeon passed away unexpectedly at Scheuer Health in Pigeon, Michigan on Monday, November 17, 2025. Larry was born on July 12, 1948, to the late George II and Florence (Thomas) Girvan in Detroit and was a 1966 graduate of Hazel Park High School. After school, he held a number of positions, working as a carpet layer, over the road truck driver, and facility manager for a juvenile corrections facility. Larry met Nancy Thomas through Nancy’s brother Terry, and the couple would soon become inseparable. They married July 1, 1994, and spent over 31 years together. She survives him. In his free time, Larry loved time spent on the water, boating and enjoying the sun. He considered Caseville to be his happy place and was a regular at many taverns and restaurants in the area. He loved golfing and watching sports of any kind, especially Detroit sports and MSU football. Larry had a deep appreciation for musicianship and songwriting, often listening to music from the ‘60s and ‘70s. He is remembered as being a happy, kind, and thoughtful person who kept lifelong friendships and was generous with his time and love. Larry loved animals and treasured his companionship with his dog Sunshine who preceded him in death in 2018. He had an inquisitive mind that always knew how things worked and passed on a lifelong passion for learning to his two daughters whom he cherished. Larry’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, and in the people whose life he touched through his generous donation through Gift of Life.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Girvan; daughters, Christy (Jim) Monaghan and Nicole (Brian) Murphy; grandchildren, Justin, Cody, Alex, Remi, Brendan, Ryan, Evan, and Nolan; great grandchildren, Elijah, Micah, Delilah, and Kenlee; siblings, Nancy Evans, Patrick (Nancy) Girvan, and Mary (Jim) Bonnell; and siblings-in-law, Lynn Noel, and Dan Georgevich; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members, and countless friends.
