George John Mohr, 95 of Pigeon, passed away after an extended illness on Monday, August 10, 2015.
George was born in Pigeon on August 2, 1920 to Carl and Anna (Trost) Mohr and graduated from Pigeon High School in 1938. After high school he was a stone mason apprentice for Theodore Heine and served in the U.S. Army, becoming a member of the elite Army Band during World War II. He married Ruth Weiss on January 24, 1948 at St. John Lutheran Church in Berne.
George became a sole proprietor/mason contractor and was in business until his retirement in 1992. He studied and completed an architectural design program to enhance his credentials. His specialties were hand-cut fieldstone fireplaces and home exteriors as well as using custom brick and mortar designs.
He was a life-long member of Cross Lutheran Church where he was taught Sunday School, played trumpet in the church band, including many trumpet solos for special holiday services, and served on various committees over his lifetime.
George is survived by his sons, George (Sharman) Mohr of Allegan and Gary (Rebecca) Mohr of Caro; daughters, Marion (Wallace) Hart of Williamston and Carmen (Alan) Haag of Milford; eight grandchildren: Jason Mohr, Kari (Greg) Brabec, Shannon (Susan) Mohr, Erin (Chris) Emmons, Kelsi (Jason) Sawdy, Sean Hart, Kira Haag, and Taaven Haag; six great-grandchildren: Etienne and Julian Mohr, Skye and Will Brabec, and Taylor and Kennedy Sawdy; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Norma Weiss. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth and son Tom.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2015 at Cross Lutheran Church, Pigeon, with Rev. Timothy Loehrke, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Cross Lutheran Church or the charity of donor's choice.
