George W. Scourtes of Caro, age 81, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2020 at his home, following a period of declining health. George was born June 25, 1939 in Detroit, the son of the late John & Marie (Trombley) Scourtes. He grew up in Detroit where he learned the baking business from his father, eventually working as a truck loader and salesman for the Russell Finney Pie Company. On June 24, 1961, George was united in marriage with Zelma Sanders in Pontiac, and enlisted in the U.S. Army the following year. Upon his honorable discharge in 1965, he and Zelma moved to Fargo in St. Clair County where he worked as a builder. In 1981, he opened the Fargo Market and operated the business until 1986. George was a talented builder and passed his many skills to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed making birdhouses, riding four-wheelers, and a good cup of coffee with friends. George will be remembered for his kind nature and fantastic sense of humor that he shared freely. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Zelma Scourtes of Caro; three children and their spouses, Christine & Gary Jagodzinski of Mayville, George David & Carrie Scourtes of Fargo, Dan Charles Scourtes of Fargo; six grandchildren, David Louis Scourtes, Roderick J. Sadilek, Robbie Nolan, Cody Nolan, Sarah Ashlyn Scourtes, Deagan Scourtes; four siblings, John Scourtes, Dorothy Horn, Elaine Balfour, Anna Scourtes; and many nieces and nephews. In keeping with George's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service is being planned for a later date.
