George Spears

George E. Spears, age 77 of Caseville died Wednesday afternoon, June 19, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center, Midland.

He was born September 2, 1935 in Detroit to the late Roy and Geneva (Mackey) Spears. George attended Gesu Elementary School, Detroit and graduated from St. Theresa Catholic High School in 1953. In 1954, he was inducted into the US Army attached to the Air Force, serving in Japan during the Korean War.

On May 19, 1994, he was united in marriage to Margaret E. Lucki at St. James Catholic Church, Ferndale.
George owned and operated Spears Bar in Detroit for 33 years. In the late eighties, he sold the bar and moved to Caseville in 1995.

He was a very active member of St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville where he was past president of the church council, usher and lector, was a member of the Caseville American Legion, Caseville Eagles Club and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He was an avid golfer, had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed visiting with friends and family.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret; two sons, George Spears of Roswell, GA and Michael Spears of Sterling Heights; two grandchildren, George III and Hannah Spears and his brother, Roy (Helen) Spears of Troy.
Preceding him in death was his sister, Nancy Thurston.

A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:00 AM Monday, June 24, at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville. Rev. Fr. Robert Pare, pastor will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
A Knights of Columbus Rosary service will be conducted 6:30 PM Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville where friends and family may call from 5 to 8 PM Saturday, 2 to 8 PM Sunday and after 9:00 AM Monday at the church.
