George J. Sulla age 89 of Caseville and Pigeon, passed away Thursday morning, May 24, 2012 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe.
Born in Detroit on September 10, 1922, he was the son of the late Otto and Blanche (Jurkiewicz) Sulla.
Prior to serving with the U.S. Navy during World War II, George worked at the Stroh Brewery Company in Detroit. Later, he attended the Detroit Metropolitan Police Academy, and worked for the City of Detroit Water Department as security guard. He moved to Caseville in 1980.
George was a former member of the Caseville Eagles (F.O.E. #3690), the Port Austin Frank Horetski Post #499 American Legion, and attended St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and gardening in his yard, as well as walking and visiting with friends at Country Gardens in Pigeon where he lived for seven years.
He is survived by a sister, Margaret Certo of Eastpointe; nephew, Thomas Certo; niece, Barbara (Jim) McCann; and several great-nephews and great-nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Otto, Jr. and a niece, Marilyn Simpson.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon, with Fr. John Weis officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Detroit.
