George Douglas Tappen, age 67, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2020 at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. George was born April 30, 1953 in Saginaw, the son of the late Lawrence & Twila (Prather) Tappen. He graduated from Carrollton High School with the class of 1971 and served in the U.S. Army for the following six years where he was stationed in Germany and St. Louis. Upon his honorable discharge, George attended Saginaw Valley State University where he studied music. He used his knowledge and love of music to open an instrument store on Hamilton Street in Saginaw. He was also known as a jack of all trades, able to fix virtually anything he touched, eventually opening an appliance repair business. His spare time was often spent outdoors, camping, fishing and caring for his lawn George was united in marriage on August 20, 2005 with the former Corina Curl at the Akron Church of God. George is survived by his loving wife, Corina of Caro; three children and their spouses, Kenneth & Debra Tappen of Texas, Gary & Adrienne Tappen of Texas, Cassie Tappen and her fianc, Louie Magiera, of Caro; six grandchildren, Aaron, Nathan, Daniel, Wyatt Tappen, Zoey West; siblings and their spouses, Butch & Carol Tappen of South Carolina, Jim & Nancy Tappen of Saginaw, Patty & Sonny Rausch of New Mexico, Susan & Larry Rolka of Saginaw, Mark & Tammy Tappen of Saginaw, Kay E. Moore of Saginaw, Marsha & Louis Lopez of Texas, Martha & Jimmy Poineau, Gerry & Carla Rausch, Bob & Cherie Tappen, Ervin Glenn; many nieces and nephews; and many beloved feather and furballs. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his step-mother, Marilyn Tappen; step-brother, Robert Sharon III; nephew, Jeff Tappen; and niece, Johnna Dittmar. In keeping with George's wishes, cremation has taken place. Burial with military honors will be held at a later time at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
