George “Ross” Whiting, age 70, of Caro, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at St. Marys Hospital in Saginaw, MI. He was born on September 28, 1940 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to the late Herman and Lillian (McQuat) Whiting. Mr. Whiting came to the United States as a child and was raised in Kentucky, then coming to the lower part of Michigan as a teenager, and moved often in conjunction with his fathers work in the ministry. In 1987 he moved from Clio to Caro and worked in the electrical contracting industry as a sales manager. He had been employed by Diamond Electric and later for Medler Electric. Previous to his tenure in the electrical business, Mr. Whiting worked in the beverage business for many years as a route driver then sales manager. Mr. Whiting was an avid fisherman and hunter. He most enjoyed spending time with his children and in his later years, sharing the gospel. During the course of his life he belonged to several out-of-doors related clubs and organizations. Mr. Whiting is survived by his two children, Brad of West Branch and Valerie of Swartz Creek; one granddaughter, Kristen; one great-grandson, Braeden; a sister, Sharon; and many dear friends. In accordance with Mr. Whitings wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service at the Collon Funeral Home on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. The Whiting family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Michigan Chapter, or the American Diabetes Association.
