George J. Woitowitz

George J. Woitowitz, age 91, of Caseville, died Saturday, September 5, 2009 at home surrounded by family.

George was born May 19, 1918 in Flint to the late Konstantin and Maria Woytowicz. He served from 1941 to 1945 in the US Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theatre. On July 28, 1942 he married Phyllis Dues in De Ridder, Louisiana.

Geogre worked for the US Postal service from 1945 to 1975, retiring as a supervisor. While working there, he served as the state and local union representative for the Postal Clerks Union. He was the charter commander and life member of the American Legion Federal Post #496 in Flint. He was a past president and 32-year member of the Caseville Eagles FOE #3690. He was also a member of the DAV, Caro Moose Lodge, Flint Elks #222, Flint Old News Boys, and the Clio VFW. He enjoyed spending time at the Eagles, playing cards, hunting, fishing, gambling, dancing, square dancing, traveling and family.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years Phyllis; daughter Carol Ann and her husband Roderic “Skip” Heilman; grandchildren Leann (Ron) Boylen and Roderic Joseph Heilman; great-grandsons Hunter and Brandon Boylen, all of Hale; brother Fred Woodrow of Clio; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Olga Johnson, Anne DeFord, and Mary Jane Jackson.

Funeral Services will be at 11:30 Thursday at St. Roch Catholic Church followed by military honors by the Caseville American Legion.

Visitation will be 2-8 PM Wednesday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville. There will be an Eagles Ritual at 7:00PM Wednesday.

The family greatly appreciates the care provided by Hospice Advantage and Leelin Home Health Care and recommends donations be made to either of those organizations in George’s memory.
