Georgene M. Hurd, age 96, stepped into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro. Georgene was born September 7, 1921 in Cass City, the daughter of the late Charles & Emily (Cole) Wright. She was the eighth of nine children, all of whom preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to Leslie T. Hurd on June 26, 1939 and the couple cherished fifty-nine years together before his death on April 1, 1998. After Leslie's passing, she was married to Lloyd Hughes until his passing shortly after. Georgene loved Jesus and enjoyed talking to others about Him and praying for them. She was always a gracious hostess and would never allow anyone to leave her house hungry. She was a great cook, an excellent seamstress, quilter, and would help occasionally on the family farm. She was also active in the PTA, painted and wallpapered, drove school bus for Owendale-Gagetown Schools, delivered for Meals on Wheels, drove for seniors, helped her husband deliver cars for a local dealer, and was a foster grandparent at the McComb Elementary School in Caro for several years. Georgene is survived by her three children and their spouses, Duane & Diane Hurd of Gagetown, Pamera & Barry Sting of Unionville, Sharada & Thomas Seurynck of Gagetown; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Kelly Gunsell, Shelly Kent and her fianc, Doug Wichert, Todd & Gretchen Roestel, Yvette Hurd, Tammy & Greg Bliss, Jodie & John Cleveland, Jason Sting, Chad & Paige Sting; honorary granddaughter, Rebecca Evans; sixteen great-grandchildren, Karissa & Josh Williams, Josh, Jordan, and Levi Gunsell, Nicole and Cory Kent, Travis and Austin Roestel, Gunner and Brecken Bliss, Katie and Gavin Cleveland, Taylor, Emma, Roman, and Dominic Sting; two great-great-grandchildren, Rylee and Lilyann Williams; and her many special friends at McComb Elementary School. In addition to her parents and husbands, Georgene was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Olivia Cleveland; sisters, Beatrice Wright, Verneta Stilson, Laura Moore, Aletha Moss, Margaret French, Ada Glendenning; brothers, Charles and George Wright. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at the Hillside Community Church in Gagetown with Revs. Mark Gerisch and James Willett officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Elmwood Township Cemetery in Gagetown.
