Gerald Howard Babcock, Sr. of Cass City, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at Autumnwood of Deckerville. Gerald was born September 19, 1931 in Caro, the son of the late Zebe & Gladys (Nichols) Babcock. He was employed briefly at the Caro State Hospital before his enlistment in the U.S. Navy. While in the service, Gerald proudly served his country as a gunner's mate during the Korean War. He was united in marriage with the former Glendora Churchill on February 21, 1953, and she preceded him in death on August 9, 2014. Gerald was employed with Eaton Foundry in Vassar for more than twenty years prior to his retirement, then worked as a mail carrier in Cass City for five years. He also liked motorcycles and was a talented television repairman. Gerald attended the Caro First Baptist Church and was a member of the Caro American Legion Post #7. Gerald is survived by three children and their spouses, Sandra & Gary Lindquist of Lapeer, Gerald H. Babcock, Jr. of Florida; Randy & Andrea Babcock of Cass City; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Judy Babcock; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Gerald was preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Sue Melton; one granddaughter, Lori Lindquist; one great-granddaughter, Stephanie Gohsman; four siblings and their spouses, George & Rosemary Babcock, Frank Babcock, Wayne & Ethel Babcock, and Doris & Jim Donahue. In keeping with Gerald's wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside memorial service will be held at the Ellington Township Cemetery in Caro at a later date.
