Gerald Melvin Begeman

Gerald Melvin Begeman of Kingston, age 86, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Christensen Care Assisted Living in Marlette, following an extended illness. Jerry was born September 26, 1932 in Flat Rock, the son of the late Louis & Leona (Steiman) Begeman. He graduated from Trenton High School Class of 1950 and went on to join the U. S. Army, serving during the Korean War. On May 18, 1959, he was united in marriage with the former Viola Chambers and she preceded him in death on February 18, 2007. Following brief stints at jobs in the Kingston area, Jerry began a twenty-five-year career at the GM - Buick Plant in Flint. He was a member of the Caro Moose Lodge and the Caro Elks Lodge and enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, pitching horseshoes, playing cards, and making venison jerky. Jerry is survived by three children and their spouses, Darrell & Valerie Chambers of North Branch, Janis Cook of Davison, and Donald & Diane Begeman of Caro; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jamie Chambers of North Branch, Troy Chambers of Davison, Gary & Tammy Begeman of Lapeer, Jason (Kayla Zyrowski) Begeman of Caro, Kevin Begeman of Caro, and Tammy & Ron Putnam of Imlay City; fourteen great grandchildren; one sister, Esther Tyra of Onondaga; and one brother and his wife, Gene & Gloria Begeman of Trenton. In addition to his parents and wife, Jerry was preceded in death by a grandson, Joe Chambers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Michele Hile officiating. Burial will follow at Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro with military honors afforded by the U.S. Army and the Caro American Legion Post #7.
