Gerald Joseph DeSimpelaere, Sr., age 78, of Unionville, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Vadavilla AFC Home in Unionville.
Gerald was born in Bay City, Michigan on March 21, 1946 to the late Albert and Julia (Deveare) DeSimpelaere. He attended Unionville School.
On November 6, 1971 he was united in marriage to Debra Sattler and together they raised two sons. Debra preceded him in death on October 24, 2022.
Gerald helped out on the family farm and worked at Defoes Shipyard before working at General Motors until his retirement in 1997. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and talking to just about anyone. Some of the organizations that he belonged to during his lifetime were the UAW Local 362, Bay City GI Forum and the Gateway Sportsman's Club in Unionville. Also, he was very passionate about animals and was sure to post flyers for the Blessing of the Pets at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Sebewaing.
Gerald is survived by his sons: Gerald DeSimpelaere, Jr. and Edward DeSimpelaere (Lori Briggs); nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, great nephews, and many friends including close family friends: Mark (Deana) Jacoby and Tim Roberts.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, the mother of his children, Debra, sisters: Delores Gaeth and Diane Hahn; aunts and uncles including: William (Margaret) Hellebuyck, cousins, a nephew Lyle Gaeth, too many close friends to name and many beloved pets.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 2pm-8pm at Juengel- Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing, Michigan. Memorials may be given to the family.
