Gerald A. “Hap” Forster, age 77, of Elkton, died suddenly Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe.
Hap was born October 23, 1932 in Detroit to the late Gustav and Evelyn (Jennings) Forster. His family moved to Elkton in 1947. He married Phyllis Jean Keel on June 7, 1958 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Parsonage in Elkton. Phyllis preceded him in death on April 17, 2002.
Hap retired from Active Industries on March 27, 1998 after 43 years of employment. He started in 1954 and worked his way up to Senior Semi Truck Driver for 37 of his years there. He was an active member of the Allied Industrial Union, founding member of the Elkton Ambulance, a board member for 26 years at Active Credit Union, a proud member of the Elkton Lions Club and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Hap loved baseball, and was a loyal Detroit Tiger fan.
Surviving are his children David (Sue) of Decker, Paul of Warren, Jeff (Sonya) of Lexington, SC, Jayne (Scott Parks) of Cass City and Troy of Lexington, SC; grandchildren Jessica, Michael, Charles, Vanessa, John, Nick, Nicole, Aaron, Brandon, Maggie, Cherokee and Matthew; and his sister Jean (George) McClain of Florida.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Wednesday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Elkton with Rev. Rodney Schwab officiating.
Visitation will be 2:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial may be made to Trinity Evangelical Church.
