Gerald B. Geiger, age 79, passed away at his home, surrounded by the love of his family on Friday, November 5, 2010, following a lingering illness. He was born June 10, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio, the son of the late Walter & Helen (Younge) Geiger. Jerrys mother passed when he was very young, so he was raised by his father and his step-mother, Agnes (Liedel) Geiger. Following graduation from Ida High School with the class of 1949, Jerry began his career with Detroit Edison. At the start of the Korean War, Jerry joined the Marine Corp, returning to work with Detroit Edison in the Monroe and Caro offices for the next forty-three years, retiring in 1993. Jerry was united in marriage with the former Jean F. Schumacher in 1974 in Toledo, Ohio. Jerry moved to Caro in 1968 to work, but continued his membership with the Ida American Legion and later joined the Caro Moose Lodge. During his free time, Jerry played golf anytime the weather would allow, and also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Surviving are his wife of thirty-six years, Jean Geiger of Caro; eight children and their spouses, David Geiger of Vermont, Gary Geiger of Rochester, Diane Geiger of Linden, Robert Geiger of Cass City, Linda Geiger of Caro, Peter & Denise Zeitler of California, Kristie Reh of Caro, Lucy & Ray Nowak of Lake City; thirteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. “When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little - but not too long, and not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that was once shared. Miss me but let me go. For this is a journey we all must take and each must go alone. Its all part of the Master Plan, a step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick of heart, go to the friends we know, and bury your sorrows in good deeds. Miss me but let me go.”
