Gerald E. Herbert, 77 of Sand Point and formerly of Bay City and Saginaw, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2014 at home.
Born in Saginaw on October 18, 1936, he was the son of Samuel and Emma (Horn) Herbert. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School and General Motors Institute. On October 29, 1977 he was married to Lillian Jo Whisman at Messiah Lutheran Church in Bay City.
Gerald spent most of his career working in various engineering management positions with General Motors at Saginaw Steering Gear. He retired from GM after 38 years.
Gerald enjoyed golf and boating. He lived in Pompano Beach, Florida, and Sand Point, Michigan. He was past president of the Florida Condominium Association where he lived and had been very active with the Sand Point Club. He was also a former Caseville Township Zoning Board member.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Jo; his children, Randy (Roxana) Herbert of Saginaw, Richard (Sue) Herbert of Macomb, Cindy (Doug) Riefel of Englewood, Florida, Brian Lennox of Bloomington, Illinois, and Craig Lennox of Saginaw; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Janet Knoper and Sharon (Roger) Cady, both of DeWitt and Nancy (Wes) Frank of Loudenville, New York; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Bay City, with Rev. Andreas Teich officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Messiah Lutheran Church.
