Gerald "Jerry" Johnston of Kingston, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at his home. Jerry was born June 5, 1925 in Flint, the son of the late Roy and May (Robinson) Johnston. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army from October 12, 1943 to January 9, 1946 as a Private First Class, Company D, 753rd Tank Battalion. He received five bronze stars and was known as a D-Day vet on Channel 5. Jerry was employed as a grinder at Eaton Foundry and also farmed locally. He was united in marriage with the former Louise Dadacki on April 26, 1947. Sadly, following sixty-eight years of marriage, Louise preceded him in death on March 5, 2016. Jerry was known as "Babe" when he sang with his brother, LaVern, at various locations throughout the area, and in later years he played for patients at the Saginaw V.A. Hospital and Fisher Convalescent Home. He loved bacon and he loved eggs. On a special note, he received his high school diploma from Caro when he was 95 years old. Gerald is survived by his children, Jerry Johnston of Cass City, Ronald & Janet Johnston of Armada, Annette & Les Sproule of Vassar, Brian & Pam Johnston of Wolverine, Debra & Mike Kusluski of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Angel, Shane, Nathan, Jessica, Doug and Matthew; and great-grandchildren, Raymond, Sidney, and Phoenix. In addition to his parents and wife, Jerry was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. A private family graveside service will be held at St. Michael Cemetery in Wilmot on Friday, December 23, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Military honors will be afforded by the U.S. Army and the Caro American Legion Post #7.
