Gerald Allen Mitchell

Gerald Allen Mitchell, 81, of Caseville, died Thursday, August 2, 2012 at McLaren Bay Region Medical Center in Bay City.

Jerry was born December 21, 1930 in Detroit to the late Edward S. and Josephine H. (Brosche) Mitchell. He graduated from Detroit Catholic Central High School in 1948 and the University of Detroit in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science in engineering. He married Marilyn J. Walsh on May 4, 1957 at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Plymouth.

Jerry retired as a civil engineer from Oakland County Facilities and Operations in 1993. He moved from Royal Oak to Caseville in 1995, where he had owned property since 1970. He was a member of St. Roch, Caseville Eagles, the Knights of Columbus and a volunteer with United Hospice and Scheurer Hospital. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn; children Anne (Michael) Brophy of Grosse Pointe Woods, Sharon (Stuart) Fisher of Lapeer, Mary “Meg” (John) Ogg of Colorado and Steven (Robin) of Goodrich; grandchildren Katie (Matt), Erica (James), Mary, Tommy, Adam, Ben, Danny, Devyn, Kynson, and Rowyn; great-grandson Austin; brother Rev. Edward J. Mitchell of Livonia; sister-in-law Judy Dyer of Plymouth; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be at 11:00 am Monday, August 6th at St. Roch Catholic Church with Fr. Edward Mitchell presiding. Burial will be in St. Roch Cemetery.

Visitation will be 1 to 7 pm Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville and one hour prior to mass on Monday in church. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 pm Sunday followed by a scripture service, all at the funeral home.
