Gerald John Platko

Gerald J. Platko, 85, of Caseville, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Covenant Harrison Hospital in Saginaw.

Jerry was born May 23, 1938 in Saginaw to the late John and Eleanor (Urban) Platko.  In 1956 he graduated from Holy Rosary High School in Saginaw.  He married Mary Jean Vescio on May 18, 1957 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Saginaw.

Jerry retired from the grocery business and moved from Saginaw Twp to Caseville in 1993.  He was a founding member of the Saginaw Twp Fire Dept, serving in various roles for 32 years.  After moving to Caseville he became active in Township government, currently serving as Township Trustee.  He loved spending time with family, he was especially devoted to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jerry is survived by his wife Mary Jean; his children David (Nancy) of Bay City, Audrey (Phil) Stahle of Harrison and Pamela (Marty) Rankin of Imlay City; son-in-law Thomas O’Brien of Mt. Morris; grandchildren Scott, Matt, Drew, Andy, Mike, Adam, Zack, Megan, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Catherine and Shelby; great-grandchildren Milo, Mary, John, Hannah, Zeke, Zoey, Lawson, Conrad and Memphis; brothers James (Gloria) and Norman; and sisters Debra (Bill) Doyle and Nancy (Ray) Tijerina.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Kathy Ann O’Brien and brother Richard.

There will be a private graveside service at Caseville Twp Cemetery.  Visitation will be 2-8 Monday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Pigeon.
