Gerald Frederick Thorp II of Caro, age 53, passed away at home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Friday, August 19, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jerry was born March 2, 1969 in Caro, the son of Gerald F. & Sharon (Raymond) Thorp. He graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1987 and attended Central Michigan University. He was united in marriage with Kimberly Pelica on September 15, 1990 at the Caro United Methodist Church. Following a brief time as a meat cutter, Jerry began learning the insurance profession while working for his father at Aflac in a career that would span twenty-eight years as a salesman, district manager, and regional manager. He found his purpose in helping clients and friends, always available during life's most challenging times. Jerry was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church, Caro Mt. Moriah Lodge #226 F&AM of which he was a Past Master, and held several leadership roles with the Bay City Consistory and its Dyslexia Center. He ultimately earned 33rd degree membership, the highest honor conferred in the organization. Jerry was a natural entertainer and had a way of making any stranger feel comfortable. Caring and selfless, Jerry always put the needs of others before his own. Quiet moments were spent gazing at a sunset at Sunset Bay Marina or watching football, but nothing made him happier than time with his beloved grandsons. Jerry was always up for an adventure and traveled extensively with Aflac. Although he was with us too briefly, he packed centuries worth of experiences and friendships into his time here. Jerry leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of nearly thirty-two years, Kimberly; two daughters, Abby Babini and her husband, Christian, of Clarkston, Riley Thorp and her fianc, Dominic James, of Cass City; two grandsons, Landen and Liam; parents, Gerald F. & Sharon M. Thorp of Caro; one sister and her husband, Laurie & Eric Sevener of Onaway; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Cardinal Hospice of Bay City for their exceptional care and compassion for Jerry.
