Gerald W. Deering

Gerald W. Deering, age 81, of Bay Port, passed away peacefully at his home on September 23, 2017.

Gerald was born January 11, 1936 in Bay Port, to the late William and Helen (Frei) Deering. After graduating from high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He worked for Wallace Stone Quarry for 47 years. Gerald enjoyed watching and playing all sports, especially bowling and baseball and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. He also enjoyed working in the yard and tinkering with just about anything he could get his hands on.

Gerald is survived by his children: Debra (Lee) Strieter of Sebewaing, Aaron Deering of Chattanooga, TN, and Melanie (Pat) Nast of Lapeer; sister, Janet Hydorn of Caseville; 3 grandchildren: Eric, Cheryl and Ariana; and 2 great grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Justin.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen Deering; brother, Richard Deering; and sister, JoAnne Kundinger.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing. Visitation will begin at 12pm until the time of service at 1pm. James Deming will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project or the charity of your choice.
