Gerald “Red” Wissner, 85, of Pigeon, died Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe.
Red was born November 20, 1933 in Brookfield Twp to the late Fred and Myrtle (Strauch) Wissner. He graduated from Owendale High School and served in the US Army. He married Dorothy (Kosinski) Fisher on February 1, 1964; she preceded him in death February 21, 2003.
Red retired as a truck driver and a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parrish. He was an active and passionate supporter of the Lakers Athletic Boosters.
He is survived by his step-children Dave (Lonna) Fisher of Elkton, Donna (Jeff) Castle of Bad Axe and Kathie Bruce of Frankfort; grandchildren Wendy (Tom) Bruetsch, Scott (Kelly) Fisher, Adam (Ashley) Castle, William (Jill) Castle, Kim (Andy) Gray, Kirk (Heather) Bruce and Todd Bruce; 11 great-grandchildren ; sisters Patricia Sonntag and Nina Alexander; brother-in-law Vern Winter; sisters-in-law Patricia, Alice and Jean Wissner; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandchildren Kalee Joy Bruce and Walter Fisher; son-in-law Ted Bruce; brothers Owen, Glen, Don, and Ken Wissner; sisters Vernita McPhail, Esther Cochrane, Maxine Winter, Arlene Ross, Aldine Voss and Milda Polley.
A funeral mass will be 10:00am Thursday, December 27th at St. Francis Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Pare presiding. Military honors will be presented by the Elkton VFW. Burial will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery, Port Austin. Visitation will be 2-8 Wednesday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton.
