Gertrude (Trudy) Asperger, age 84, of Caro passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at The Laurels of Fulton in Perrinton, Michigan. She was born on August 18, 1925 in Detroit to the late Adam and Anna (Skicki) Kaplan. Gertrude and her parents and siblings moved to Caro when she was a small child, where she has lived most of her life. As a young woman she lived in Pontiac for a limited time, where the former Gertrude Kaplaniak married Martin Asperger on June 11, 1949. He preceded her in death on October 13, 1989. Trudy was a homemaker and mother; and after working in her earlier years as an elevator operator, she worked as a seamstress. She was an avid shopper and enjoyed taking care of her gardens, her friends and family. She and her friends enjoyed dancing to Denny Ewalds music. She is survived by one son, James Edward Kaplan of Utica; one daughter, Karen Smith of Caro; three grandchildren, Kevin (Stacy) Kaplan of Macomb, Jennifer (James) West of Clarkston and Emily Stickler of Georgia; six great-grandchildren, Dustin, Tayla, Audrey, Jessica, Skyler and Kylie; a former sister-in-law, Ruth Rowell of Caro, and several nieces, nephews and caring friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by all of her siblings and their spouses. The funeral will be held at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ronald Wigand officiating. Burial will be at Indianfields Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Gertrude Asperger family discretionary fund, c/o Karen Smith, 302 S.
