Gertrude Elsie Marie Stecker

Gertrude Elsie Marie Stecker, age 92, of Midland, formerly of Sebewaing, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2014.

She was born July 18, 1922 in Pigeon, the daughter of the late Frederick and Marie (Bergman) Licht. She grew up on the family farm near Pigeon. She was confirmed at Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon and graduated from Elkton High School. On May 12, 1956, she was united in marriage to David E. Stecker at Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon. He preceded her in death on February 15, 1991. Along with being a homemaker and partner to her husband in farming, Gertrude worked at Scheurer Hospital for many years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and had been active in Mary-Martha Guild, Ladies' Aid, LWML, and Altar Guild.

Gertrude is survived by her children, Kathleen (Clifford) Westby of Okemos, Donald (Nancy) Stecker of Sebewaing, Paul (Heidi) Stecker of Hemlock, Lori (Alan) Paulsen of Midland and eight grandchildren, Aaron, Laurie, Sara, Amy, Lisa, Rachel, Megan, and Kayla. Also, one brother, Ray (Elaine) Licht of Pigeon, one brother-in-law John Ruby of Saginaw, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Loren Stecker; one brother, Edwin Licht; two sisters Frieda Heintz and Dorothy Ruby.

Gertrude's family is thankful for all the wonderful people who cared for her at Brookdale Sr. Living and the hospice care provided by Americans Home Health Care.

Visitation Monday, August 11, 2014 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 5-8pm.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Visitation will begin at the church at 10am until the time of service at 11am.

Burial at Northlawn Cemetery in Sebewaing.

Suggested memorials are Immanuel Radio Mission Fund or Immanuel Lutheran Church Roof Fund.
