Hermingilda “Gilda” Watterworth, 86, of Marlette, formerly of Caseville, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the United Hospice Service of Marlette Hospital.
Gilda was born March 4, 1928 in Vienna, Austria to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Fehm) Bauer and grew up under the German occupation during World War II. She met her future husband Bruce while he served in the US Army on occupation duty in Vienna. They were married in Vienna on July 18, 1947. Bruce preceded her in death on August 12, 1993.
After marrying she and her husband moved to her husband’s parent’s farm near Gotts Corner in December of 1948. In 1958 they moved to their home on Sand Point. Gilda worked at the drive-in theater near Gotts Corner, at the Caseville State Bank as a cashier and as a telephone operator with General Telephone in Caseville. In 2009 she moved to an independent living facility in Marlette.
She is survived by her sister Johanna Bracket; sisters-in-law Mary Lou and Elaine; brothers-in-law Robert, Alan, and Glenn; five nieces and nephews; and her special care givers niece Barbara (William) Gielow. She was preceded by her parents, husband, brother Osker, brothers-in-law Tom and Richard, and sister-in-law Sally.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, December 13th at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville with Rev. Paul Bousquette, pastor of St. James Presbyterian Church in Redford, officiating. Burial will be in Caseville Twp Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11am Saturday until the time of the service.
Memorials may be made to the ALS Association (fighting Lou Gehrig’s disease).
