Gladys Irene Vandemark

Gladys Irene VandeMark of Unionville, age 84, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit. Gladys was born January 24, 1935 in Mayville, the daughter of LaVerne and Mabel (Jaques) Garner. She was united in marriage with Eldon VandeMark in 1953 in Gilford, and he preceded her in death on July 6, 2006. Gladys was employed as an assembly person for General Cable in Cass City for many years. She was an active member of Son's Life Missionary Church in Sebewaing where she led numerous Bible studies. She also helped on Tuesday after school Bible studies where people enjoyed her many treats. Gladys was an active quilter for both church and family, loved watching birds, gardening, and she was well known for making the very best vegetable soup. Gladys is survived by two children, Debra Harrod and her husband, Richard, of Akron, Eldon Scott VandeMark of Unionville; three grandchildren, Edward VandeMark of Unionville, Myra Beichner and her husband, Chad, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Maddison Harrod of Akron; one great-granddaughter, Peyton Beichner; her sisters- and brothers-in-law; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Gladys was preceded in death by one son, Leland VandeMark; six siblings and their spouses, Robert & Virginia Garner, Marion Luscomb, Marie & Elbert Esckelson, Alice & Donald Dearden, Theresa Gleason, and twin sister, Grace & Robert Wells. In keeping with Gladys' wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Son's Life Missionary Church, 1 West Main Street, Sebewaing, MI 48759 with Pastor Brian Reinhardt officiating. The family will be present to receive friends at the church on Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 12:30 p.m., with visitation to continue following the service.
