"Poppi's Story"

Glen Albert Mooreage 92, of Unionville, was born on August 16, 1926 to Theodore Herbert Moore and Ruth Mary (Gies) Moore who resided in Linwood, Michigan. Glen was proceeded in death by two brothers, Theodore and Robert, and is survived by two sisters, Hazel (Pashak) and Mary Ellen (Gorzenski).

Glen met his sweetheart, Maxine Helen Strieter, while working at the Auto Lite factory in Bay City.  His job involved grill work for the Studebaker automobile and Maxine was the parts inspector. After strong encouragement from his co-workers he finally asked her out on a date. They were married July 9 ^th , 1949 at the Moravian Church in Unionville, Michigan. They shared 65 wonderful years together, always hand in hand, raising their four children. Barbara Lea, their oldest daughter, went to Heaven on her 15 ^th birthday.  Buddy Glen (Renee VandeMark), Thomas Owen (Tess Farlan), and Adena Rae (Susan Sutphin) feel blessed to have called him Dad.  Three grandchildren: Craig Moore, Dawna Nadolski, and Aaron (Brandie) Moore, along with five great-grandchildren, Aaron JR, Daylin, Libertie, Emily, and IvyLynn who lovingly call him "Poppi",  will miss him very much.

After graduation from Bay City Central High School in 1944, Poppi Joined the Army and was trained as a Rifleman.  He was sent to Hawaii and was awaiting orders to load the transport ships in preparation for the invasion of Japan which thankfully never occurred. After World War II was over, Poppi was sent home and joined the reserves. He worked at the Auto Lite factory where he met Maxine. He was called up for military service once again in 1946 and was trained as a Dental Technician, stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. There, Maxine  joined him four months before the birth of their first child, Barbara.  They lived happily in a tiny camper trailer that his father-in-law, Herb Strieter, brought down for them.

Glen had many interests. He enjoyed having a pilot's license in his early days, coin and stamp collecting, exploring with his metal detector, sending and receiving Ham radio messages helping doctors in Central America, helping his missionary friends in Honduras, being an Elder and Sunday School teacher at the Moravian Church, and traveling all 50 states and many countries of the world with his precious wife Maxine. Glen also had several occupations through the years. He was a school bus driver, retired from the local postal service as a rural mail carrier after 30 years, and worked for the Michigan Sugar Company until he was 87 years young! He said they needed him and he enjoyed helping out. His only reason for quitting was to take care of his beloved Maxine when she became ill. "My girl" as he called her left to be with the Lord on her birthday, in 2015, just as their daughter Barbara had.

Glen, Dad, Poppi, we know that your motto was "I am only passing through this world". Your goal has always been to be with your Heavenly Father and now your Maxine. We smile for you now. But, still our hearts are heavy with sadness for ourselves. We will miss your gentle spirit, your loving advice, your encouragement to keep our faith and trust strong.
