Glen E. Scharich, age 89 of Unionville passed away on March 15, 2021 at Close to Home Assisted Living in Bay City.
Glen was born January 13, 1932 to Charles & Amelia Scharich and helped work on the family farm for many years. He graduated from Unionville High School in 1950 and served active duty in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed bowling, horseshoes and coaching many boys' softball teams. Glen was an avid sports fan, loved his Detroit Tigers, playing euchre and listening to his favorite polka music. In his younger years he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Glen was retired from Dow Chemical in Bay City and was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church of Unionville.
Glen is survived by his 5 children: Layne (Diane) Scharich, Lori (Michael) Periard, Linda (Bill) Leahy, Scott (Lori) Scharich & Lisa (Richard) Regan; brother, Elmer (Darlene) Scharich; 13 grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Glen is predeceased by his grandson, Chad Scharich; former wife and mother of his children, Pauline Scharich; sisters, Betty Scharich & Esther (Donald) Niedrich.
The family would like to thank the staff at Close to Home Assisted Living, 805 E. South Union, Bay City, with a special thanks to Amy, Vicky and Sarah, along with the care team from Compassus Hospice.
Visitation will be at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing Friday, March 19 from 3 - 7 pm.
Funeral service will be Saturday, March 20 at St Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville, beginning at 10 am until the time of service at 11 am.
Burial will take place at Columbia Township Cemetery immediately following the service.
Memorial donations may be given to St Paul Lutheran Church or Compassus Hospice.
