Glenn Edward Hampel, age 90, of Mayville, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2010 at Fisher Senior Care and Rehab Center in Mayville. He was born on July 1, 1919 on the family farm in Fremont Township to the late John and Ida Anita (Johnson) Hampel. Glenn lived first in Fremont Township and attended the Four Towns Country School. Since 1950 he has resided in Dayton Township. He married the former Pearl Grace Harbin on September 15, 1938 in Angola, Indiana. She preceded him in death on December 6, 2005. Upon leaving country school, he went to work as an electrician with Truck and Coach in Pontiac. He left that job to work the family farm for his widowed mother. For most of his working life, however, Glenn was a well known self-employed carpenter, but his true passions were fishing, hunting, Michigan State University and having coffee and doughnuts with his buddies at the barber shop. He was an honorary member of the local MSU alumnus organization and in his early life he was involved in 4H with his wife, Pearl.
