Gloria Jane TerBush of Holland, formerly of Caro, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022 at American House Beachside in Holland. Gloria was born on August 28, 1930, in Caro, the daughter of the late Paul and Leona (Hunt) Cookenmaster. She was united in marriage with Willard "Bill" TerBush on November 28, 1953, at the First Methodist Church parsonage in Caro. God chose an outgoing husband to complement Gloria's introverted and steady disposition. During their more than fifty years of marriage, they welcomed three children into the home Bill built for them on West Gilford Road. She tolerated her husband's many interesting projects and hobbies and enjoyed time at their hunting cabin in Lewiston. While raising her children, Gloria worked at her uncle's restaurant, Ryks, in Caro and at the Tuscola County Medical Care facility for many years. The job she took most seriously, however, was caring for her loved ones. She may have been quiet and reserved but her heart was big - she selflessly cared for her parents in their final years, and she could always be counted on for prayers, special notes and a good talking to when you needed one. She loved it when a new baby was born into the family; the parents could always count on a handmade gift. In her free time, Gloria found joy in reading and needlework. She was a member of the Tuscola County Extension and the VFW Auxiliary, proudly supporting her Korean-war veteran husband. She and Bill were longtime members of Caro United Methodist Church, where Gloria also enjoyed the Hope Circle women's group. After Bill's death in December 2010 and living her entire life in Tuscola County, she moved across the state to the "big city" of Holland to be closer to her oldest daughter, Holly. In Holland, she was a very special part of the Fun Fiber Friends, a fiber-crafting group. Gloria is survived by her children, Holly (Arnie) Bracy of Holland, Jeff (Donna) TerBush of Franklin, Ohio, Wendy (Colleen) TerBush-Taylor of Harper Woods; seven grandchildren, Laurie TerBush and her partner, Josh Tirey, of Miamisburg, Ohio, Brandon TerBush of Miamisburg, Ohio, Jaime (Steve) Parkhouse of Chicago, Melanie (Dan) Farkas of Columbus, Ohio, Heather Fox of Ann Arbor, Sylis (Alyssa) Bracy of Holland, Lee (Cortney) Bracy of Clio; sixteen great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law Sharon Cookenmaster, Sally TerBush and Maxine TerBush; as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard, James, and Lee Cookenmaster. In keeping with Gloria's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Caro United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. with Reverend David Wichert officiating. The family will be present to receive visitors at church on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Caro United Methodist Church.
