Gordon “Gordy” Kujawski of Cass City, age 86, passed away Friday, April 24, 2026 at Banner Casa Grande Medical Center in Casa Grande, Arizona.
Gordy was born February 17, 1940 in Detroit, the son of the late John and Cecilia (Jarka) Kujawski. From a young age, Gordon had a passion for cars and a remarkable ability to understand and repair just about anything mechanical or electrical. Whether it was an appliance, HVAC system, automobile, or lawn mower, he was often the first person friends and neighbors would call when something broke. Gordy was always willing to lend a hand, tool bag in tow, never hesitating to help others. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
Gordy began his career working for a couple different car dealerships in the Detroit area as a mechanic. He later expanded his skills at K&S Electronics, where he learned television and radio repair. In 1977, Gordy joined Ford Motor Company, where he would spend the next twenty-five years building a distinguished career in the electrical engineering field. One of his proudest professional achievements came in March of 1988, when he and his team were featured in Time Magazine for their pioneering work in artificial intelligence and diagnostic systems to support dealerships in troubleshooting and vehicle repair.
In May of 1987, Gordy married the love of his life, Edna Karpovich, at St. Priscilla Catholic Church in Livonia. Together they shared many happy years until Edna’s passing on July 5, 2022.
Following his retirement, Gordy and Edna purchased land in Edna’s hometown of Cass City, where they built a home and spent twenty-two cherished years together. A devoted Catholic with deep and abiding faith, Gordy carried his beliefs into every aspect of his life. He and Edna were active parishioners of St. Agatha in Gagetown, where they volunteered their time maintaining the church and supporting its mission. Gordy was especially proud of their efforts collecting donations for the local food pantry, always eager to help those in need throughout the surrounding communities.
Gordy leaves to cherish his memories, his sons, Greg (Justine), Matthew, and David Kujawski, all of Arizona; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nephew, David (Holly) Karpovich of Cass City. In addition to his parents and wife, Gordy was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Kujawski, on June 12, 2023.
Gordy will be remembered for his generous spirit, unwavering faith, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness and willingness to help others.
