Gordon Hartwick

Gordon Hartwick, age 86 years, of Caro, formerly of Cass City, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at Northwood Meadows in Cass City. He was born on November 26, 1920 in Novesta Township, to the late Fred and Olive (Gibbard) Hartwick. Gordon was a Cass City High School graduate and entered the United States Naval Reserve on December 13, 1942. His career in Naval Air involved service in WWII, Korea and Viet Nam; culminating in his retirement on February 28, 1971. During his career, he was stationed throughout the world. Gordon Hartwick married Irma Haske Barriger in 1943 and she preceded him in death in 1993. Upon his retirement, they took up residence in Florida and finally came to Caro. He was a life member of the Fairgrove V.F.W. Post #7486 as well as his involvement in a full array of Masonic activities. He is survived by his two married children, Mr. and Mrs. Clint (Jaclyn) Bondarenko and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry (Lorraine) Barriger; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry (Harriet) Hartwick of Cass City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma (Barriger) Hartwick; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Ione Barriger; and a grandson, David Barriger. The funeral will be held at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Wendy Orzel, Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Burial will be at Demorest Cemetery, Akron, with Military Honors afforded by the United States Navy and the Fairgrove V.F.W. Post #7486. Visitation will be at the Collon Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. A Masonic memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 7:00 p.m. followed by a V.F.W. memorial service. Memorials may be made to Home and Hospice Advantage, Cass City, or the charity of the donors choice.
