Gordon D. Keilitz, age 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 17, 2006 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro. He was born on May 1, 1919 in Caro, the son of the late Martin and Mabel (Cole) Keilitz, and was a lifelong area resident. He was united in marriage to Mildred L. Nowland on February 11, 1939 in Caro. Gordon served as a Machinist Mate Second Class in the Navy Seabees during World War II. He was employed by Detroit Edison for 35 years, first as a tree trimmer, and later as a line clearance supervisor, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church, Caro American Legion Post #7, Caro V.F.W. Post 4164, Caro Moose Lodge, Caro Gun Club, and the Elks Lodge in Bay City and Houghton Lake. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, collecting coins, and was a proud father and grandfather. Left to cherish Gordons memory are two children and their spouses, Bob and Jennifer Keilitz of Flint, and Lt. Commander Barbara Gies-Hoffman, with the U.S. Navy, stationed at Quantico Marine Corps Base in Virginia, and her husband, Gary Hoffman; one grandson, Kevin Charles Gies of Chesapeake, VA and several nieces and nephews. Gordons wife, Mildred, preceded him in death on September 24, 2003 after 64 years of marriage. Gordon was also predeceased by a brother, Otto Keilitz.
