Gordon Knowles

Gordon Knowles of Caro, age 79, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021 while in hospice care in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Gordon was born November 10, 1942 in Pontiac, the son of the late Clayton and Dorothy (Mullin) Knowles. Gordon attended and graduated from Caro high school where he earned honorable mention all-state as a running back while playing varsity football for four years. He then went on to graduate from Michigan State University with his Associates of Horticulture. On November 13, 1965, Gordon married the love of his life, the former Joy Marie Robinson. Together they shared over 55 years of marriage, three wonderful children, and countless memories. Sadly, Joy passed away in May of this year. Gordon worked at golf courses and then went back to Caro High School where he worked as the Grounds Superintendent. He took great pride in lining the football field each season and even created his own template for the paw prints in the end zones. Gordon was a dedicated parishioner of St. Christopher Parish (Sacred Heart Church) belonged to the Caro Moose Lodge, and was a member of the Arrowhead Golf Club. It was at Arrowhead, after 60 years of golfing, where Gordon finally made a hole in one. Golfing was a lifelong passion of his and Joy's. When Gordon wasn't working or golfing, you could find him enjoying a cup of coffee with friends or tinkering in his woodshop, making all sorts of items from fences to butterflies. His caring and loving soul will be missed for generations to come. Gordon is survived by three children and their spouses, Shaun & Ann Knowles of Canton, Ryan Knowles of Lady Lake, Florida, Robin & Ryan Andjulis of Elk Grove Village, Illinois; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Eunice Louks, along with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the St. Christopher Parish (Sacred Heart Church) in Caro with Rev. Christopher Coman officiating. The family will be present to receive friends at church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to St. Christopher Parish.
