Gordon H. Stirrett

Gordon H. Stirrett age 84 of Bad Axe died Wednesday afternoon at Courtney Manor.

He was born April 20, 1928 in Chandler Twp. at the home of his parents the late Chester and Minnie (Steinman) Stirrett. Gordon grew up in Elkton and graduated from Elkton High School in 1948.
On August 5, 1950, he was united in marriage to Edythe Thomas at the Elkton Methodist Church.

Gordon was called to serve his country in 1952 during the Korean War. When he returned to Elkton, he began his career with the Elkton School, after the merge with Pigeon and Bay Port, he continued at the new high school, retiring in June of 1991 as Director of Grounds with 37 years of service.
He was a member of the Elkton United Methodist Church, life member and past Commander of the Elkton VFW Post, Life member and past Master of Hubbard-Winsor Lodge #420 F & AM, member of Order of Eastern Star and Shriners. Gordon had served as a Trustee on the Elkton Village Council for six years and enjoyed hunting. As a Shriner, he took great pride in being able to transport kids to Shriner’s Children Hospital in Chicago.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Edythe; his son, Randy (Nila) Stirrett of Elkton; a grandson, Kenneth of Moody, TX; his sister, Florence Reggio of Utica, his brother, Arnold (Irene) Stirrett of Sterling Hts., two brothers-in-law Edsel (Chris) Sharrow of Traverse City and Charles Thomas of Temperance and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his sister, Idora Sharrow; sister-in-law, Marion Thomas and brother-in-law, Gabe Reggio.

Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 8 PM Saturday.
Private services will be conducted for the family.

Memorials may be given to the Hubbard-Winsor Scholarship Fund given at Laker High School or the Elkton United Methodist Church.
