Grace Onalee Freeman, age 84 of Bay Port, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care in Pigeon.
Born in Elkton on March 22, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Susann (Cobb) Rounds, and attended and graduated from Big Turner School. On February 4, 1945 she was united in marriage to Vincent Freeman, who preceded her in death on September 27, 2004.
Grace worked at Scenic Nursing Home and Scheurer Hospital as a nurse's aide, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Pigeon V.F.W. Post 2236 Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville, and was a former member of the St. Roch Church council.
In her earlier years, Grace enjoyed bowling. She especially enjoyed garage sales and going to the beach with her family, and cherished all the time she spent with her family. More recently, she enjoyed reading, puzzles, and embroidery until her Parkinson's limited her. She was generous sharing her time and gifts with friends, family, and the people of Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care.
She is survived by six children: Linda Manyen of Bay City, Dwight Freeman (special friend Jackie) of Wallace, Douglas (Jana) Freeman of Bay Port, Peggy (Mike) Heintz of Pigeon, Daniel Freeman of Lansing, and Susann (David) Cook of Pigeon; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Heintz; a son-in-law, Melvin Manyen; sisters, Helen Pooley, Ethel Corrion, Margaret Eimers, and infant Marilyn; and brother, Harold "Fuzzy" Rounds.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon, with Fr. Robert Pare officiating. Burial will be in Grandlawn Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, the Parkinson Foundation, or the American Diabetes Association.
