Grete Henriette Gennrich

Grete Henriette Gennrich of Caro, age 97, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at her home. Grete was born on July 25, 1927, in Jever, Germany, to Konrad and Henriette Johanne (Rippen) Köller. She grew up in Germany, where she met the love of her life, Erich Gennrich, and they married on December 22, 1945. The couple had three children while living in Germany before moving to Nebraska and then Michigan, where they welcomed two more children into their family. A devoted homemaker, Grete took great pride in ensuring her children and grandchildren were always well fed. In her later years, she enjoyed being part of the Red Hat Society, playing cards, reading, and tending to her garden. Grete and Erich found joy in farming their ten acres, reaping the wonderful fruits and vegetables it provided. She had a deep love for her family, and her memory will be cherished by each and every member.

Grete leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Reinhild (Daniel) Bednarski, Erika (Garry) Reynolds, and Peter (Barbara) Gennrich; daughter-in-law, Cathy Gennrich; son-in-law, Robert Woodward; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Renate Behrnes; brother, Konrad Köller. In addition to her parents, Grete was preceded in death by her husband, Erich Gennrich; children, Erich Gennrich and Renate Woodward.

In keeping with Grete’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Grete’s grandson and his wife, Matt & Merina Gennrich, who have provided Grete with such wonderful care these past three years.
