Hannah Jane Yackle, 93 of Pigeon, passed away Monday, June 29, 2015 at Country Gardens in Pigeon.
Hannah Jane Rogers was born in Elkton on November 26, 1921, and was the daughter of Moses and Edith (Bedford) Rogers. She graduated from Elkton High School in 1940 and attended Central Michigan University from 1940-1944.
On August 3, 1946, she was united in marriage to Orville Oswald Yackle at the Elkton Evangelical United Brethren Church. They celebrated 55 years of marriage in 2001 before her husband passed away.
After graduating from Central Michigan University she was employed as a teacher at Elkton Elementary. Later she taught at Pigeon Elementary and was also principal for two years. During the summers you would find her teaching summer school. She retired after 32 years in education. Teaching was her passion.
Hannah Jane and her husband Orville enjoyed traveling together as far away as Hawaii, Alaska, Morocco and Europe. She kept the family connected by frequent family gatherings at various travel destinations such as Disney World and Alaska. She and her husband wintered at Sun-N-Fun R.V. Resort in Sarasota, Florida for 18 years.
She was a faithful member of the Elkton Missionary Church. In her earlier years Hannah Jane enjoyed The Stitchers, a ladies sewing group for missions, and she often played hymns on the piano for congregational singing.
She is survived by two children, Patricia Kraay and her husband Robert of Hickory, North Carolina and Douglas Yackle and his wife Dianne of Pigeon. She is also survived by her son-in-law Anthony Heckemeyer of Northville; seven grandchildren: Katrina (Timothy) Smith, Amity (Nathan) Binkert, Sarah (Leonard) Bixby, Maria (Timothy) Gruppen, Nathaniel (Cassandra) Kraay, Gregory (Rebecca) Yackle and Karianne Yackle; 13 great-grandchildren: Jackson, Hughston, Hannah, Alex, Bennett, Liliana, Halle, George, Phillip, William, Kathryn, Jonah, and Lily; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Orville, she was preceded in death by her daughter Phyllis Heckemeyer and her brother William Rogers.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2015 at the Elkton United Methodist Church (due to ongoing renovations at the Elkton Missionary Church), with Pastor Reggie Courliss officiating. Burial will be in Grandlawn Cemetery, Pigeon.
