Harland J. Murdick

Harland J. Murdick of Caro, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at his home. Harland was born December 26, 1934 in Vassar, the son of the late Charles L. and Violet E. (Birdsall) Murdick. He grew up in Armada and worked with his father on the family farm. Harland was united in marriage with the former Grace Hurd on June 4, 1977 in Caro, and she survives. He worked for Pontiac Motors for over twenty-five years as a piston ringer and also drove truck during many sugar beet seasons. Harland loved people, especially kids, and was known by many as the Candy Man. He had an infectious smile and heart of gold that will be sorely missed by many. Harland was a member of the Ellington Church of the Nazarene where he also served as a greeter. He loved motorcycle riding and was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. His spare time was often spent hunting, fishing and gardening. Harland is survived by his loving wife, Grace Murdick of Caro; five children and their spouses, Wayne & Teresa Murdick of Texas, Donna & Richard Smith of Minnesota, James & Polly (Danaher) Murdick of California, Mark Webb of California, Matthew Webb of Caro; grandchildren, Mason Webb, Paige Webb, Alysa Kluesner, Jenna Dahl (Ryan Waldriff), Jamie & Mark Coppens, Austin & Alexis Murdick; great-grandsons, Dominic Erickson, Logan Waldriff, Bradley Coppens; and several nieces and nephews. Harland was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lynette Kay Murdick; one sister and two brothers, Dorothy Stoddard, Everett and Kenneth Murdick; and a daughter-in-law, Lisa Webb. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2019 at the Ellington Church of the Nazarene with Rev. David Boulton officiating. Burial will follow at the Ellington Township Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Ellington Church of the Nazarene or Gideons International.
