Harold R. Ackerman, age 82, of Sterling Heights, formerly of Unionville, passed away at his home September 4, 2025.
Harold was born in Unionville, Michigan in May 1943, to Ealy and Ella Ackerman. He graduated from Unionville High School in 1961 and from Michigan State University in 1965 with a degree in Financial Administration. Harold worked in the Accounting Department at the headquarters of National Bank of Detroit in downtown Detroit for more than 35 years. He enjoyed watching the Detroit Red Wings, often going to games at Joe Louis Arena after work. Harold loved fly fishing in summer and ice fishing in winter. He was an avid hunter of deer, pheasant, geese and duck. When traveling out west, he enjoyed hiking the trails of Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks, and fly fishing in Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park.
Harold is survived by his sister, Norleen Ackerman of Salt Lake City, Utah and sister-in-law, Joanna Ackerman of Townsend, Georgia; nieces and nephews: Gayle (Kevin) Ortner of Bay City, Christene (Dan) Swartzendruber of Essexville, Caroline (Brody) Robison of Grayling, Marjorie Ackerman of Rochester, New York, James Ackerman of Ormond Beach Florida, Brenda Ackerman of Townsend, Georgia, and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ealy and Ella Ackerman, brother, Norbert Ackerman, and brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Ann Ackerman.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, October 29th from 3:00 to 4:00 pm at the Moravian Church in Unionville, with a memorial service at 4:00 pm followed by light refreshments in the Fellowship Hall.
Cremation has taken place and burial will be at Demorest Cemetery in Akron Township.
Memorial donations may be given to ACW Ambulance or the charity of your choice.
