Harold D. Johnson

Harold Delos Johnson of Caro, age 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family. Harold was born August 1, 1945 in Ponitac, the son of the late Harold and Marjorie (Putman) Johnson. He graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1963 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army. Harold served during the Vietnam War as an airborne Green Beret for over three years. He married the former Shirley Kaatz on December 24, 1966. Their marriage was blessed with nearly fifty-five years before Shirley passed on March 1, 2021. Harold worked as a machine repairman for General Motors, retiring in 2008. Following retirement, he went to work for Caro School as a bus driver and then the ISD until February 2023. Harold was a lifelong VFW member, Mason, and Eastern Star Worthy Patron. He loved to play poker, Texas Hold ‘Em, and always enjoyed an ice cold MGD. Harold loved spending time with his family, especially his special angel, great-granddaughter, Addeline.

Harold leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Cynthia Johnson of Caro and Mark (Michel) Johnson of Caro; grandchildren, Amanda McCann, Steven McCann, Ashley Johnson, Sasha Bates, Kristen McCann, and Alyssa Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Ashlye Shay, Peyton McCann, Addeline Lawrence, Alana Johnson, and Harper Eigner; siblings, David Johnson and Diana Peters; many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, Harold was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah Johnson and grandson, Mark Johnson.

In keeping with Harold’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at the family home, 166 Northview Drive, Caro, Michigan, 48723, on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with military honors at 4:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the wishes of the family, c/o Steven McCann, 166 Northview Dr., Caro, Michigan, 48723.
