Harold Ruben Ruppal of Akron, age 96, died peacefully on August 27, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born in Akron on September 13, 1926, to the late John and Millie (Fischer) Ruppal. Harold was married to the former Norma Mae Prime on February 14, 1948, at the Unionville Moravian Church. He lived in Akron where he farmed with his late wife, Norma, until their retirement in 1987. Following retirement, he wintered in both Apache Junction, Arizona and Bradenton, Florida. Harold loved traveling with Norma in both the United States and the Maritime Provinces in their motor home. He was a member of the TNT Campers Club and was active in his church, a member of the VFW, and served in many organizations. Harold was a World War II veteran serving as an Army Sergeant in the European Theater through 1947. He will be remembered for his faithful commitment to his family, his church family and for his excellence as a farmer, drilling the straightest rows of corn, beans, and beets that you could find in Tuscola Country. Harold enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, grand- nephews and nieces. He loved fishing, playing cards, and University of Michigan football games. He was a member of several choirs, loved square dancing, watching the crops grow, and sunsets on the porch with Norma. Harold was a long-standing member of the Moravian Church in Unionville.
Mr. Ruppal was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years Norma (Prime) Ruppal.
Harold is survived by his children, Dr. Barbara Ruppal Medvec (Michael, dc.) of Saline, Michele Ruppal of Plymouth, and Doug Ruppal (Brenda) of Akron. He was proud of his grandchildren Jacob Daniel Ruppal (Melanie) of Sykesville, Maryland, Dr. Estey Ruppal Evans (Duncan and Elsie) of Seffner, Florida, Evan Michael Medvec of Akron, and Tyler Daniel Medvec of Saline. Mr. Ruppal was proud to welcome his first great-grandchild born March 1, 2022, Elsie Evans. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by ten siblings, John (Marjory) Ruppal, Emma (John) Jacoby, Millie (Jacob) Jacoby, Elizabeth (Tom) Scott, Otto (Freda) Ruppal, Ernest (Arlene) Ruppal, Edward (Sylvia) Ruppal, Clara (Walter) Halabis, Martha (Robert) VanSteenhouse, and Don (Genevieve) Ruppal.
A memorial service will be held at the Unionville Moravian Church, 2711 Cass Street, Unionville at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2023. The family visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family are welcome to join the service with interment to follow immediately in the Moravian Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Harold Ruppal’s memory to the Unionville Moravian Church- Cemetery Fund at 2711 Cass Street, Unionville, Michigan 48767.
