Harry F. "Bud" Hoelzle, age 93 of Pigeon, formerly of Caseville and Portage, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 23, 2012 at Country Gardens in Pigeon. He was born in Flint on March 17, 1919 to the late Frederick G. and Inger E. (Rice) Hoelzle. On February 14, 1942 he was united in marriage to Virginia (Reeves) Hoelzle. After more than sixty years of marriage, she preceded him in death on January 3, 2008.
Bud, a chemical engineer, spent a rewarding career with E. I. DuPont from 1941-1981. He was affiliated with TAPPI and PIMA and was the National PIMA Man of the Year in 1982. Bud was and Eagle Scout, very active in the Boy Scouts and loved the outdoors. He and Virginia enjoyed traveling all 50 states and throughout the world. Bud was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pigeon, Caseville Kiwanis and a Mason.
Bud is survived by his daughter, Elaine (David) Thornton of Georgetown, Kentucky; a son, Harold (Sherry) Hoelzle of Caseville, Michigan; five grandchildren, Bill Louthan, Mark Thornton, Jennifer Thornton, Heather (Hoelzle) Miles and Anne (Hoelzle) Smith; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, Harold "Hal" Hoelzle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is preceded in death by his his daughter, Marjorie Louthan; his parents; two sisters, Elaine Cheney and Eloise Fingland; and a brother, Bill Hoelzle.
A memorial visitation will be held from 1-5pm on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home in Pigeon.
A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Pigeon, with Rev. John Britt, pastor, officiating. Visitation on Sunday will be held at the church from 2pm on until the time of service.
