Harry A. Obertein of Vassar, age 96, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Medilodge of Cass City. Harry was born April 17, 1922 in Bay City, the son of the late Augustus and Emma (Tavernier) Obertein and served his country honorably with the U.S. Navy. He was united in marriage with the former Pauline Claeys on April 19, 1947 at St. Norbert Catholic Church in Munger, and together the couple have celebrated seventy-one years of marriage. Harry farmed until 1960 when he took a position as an attendant nurse and groundskeeper at the Caro Regional Center, retiring in 1976. He enjoyed visiting the family cottage in Lewiston and wintering in Florida for more than thirty years. Harry was a member of St. Christopher Parish in Caro and the Fairgrove V.F.W. Harry is survived by his loving wife, Pauline; two children, Julie Losee of Vassar, Linda Chambers and husband, Marc, of Caro; daughter-in-law, Cheryl; six grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Paul Obertein; son-in-law, Frederick Losee; and eight siblings. In keeping with Harry's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services have been planned.
