Harry Charles Steele, Jr.

Harry Charles Steele, Jr. of Caro, age 81, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at McLaren Flint with his family by his side. Harry was born January 25, 1942 in Cass City, the son of the late Harry Charles and Anna Mae (Herzog) Steele. He graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1959 and went on to join the U.S. Army Reserves. Harry spent his springs and summers farming and his winters attending Michigan State University studying Animal Husbandry. While home for the summer, Harry happened to meet the former Janice Lotter. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on September 29, 1962. Their marriage was blessed with nearly sixty-one years, four children, and countless memories. Harry worked at Saginaw Steering Gear as a tool and die maker, retiring after thirty dedicated years. He was a skilled craftsman, remodeling the family’s one hundred-year-old farmhouse and handcrafted furniture for his children and grandchildren. Harry created various tools in his metal shop, liked reloading ammunition, and wrenching on motorcycles he could ride on the trails. He enjoyed all types of hunting, from the early years of running hounds on fox and beagles on rabbits, to deer hunting with the whole family at the cabin in Mid-Forest Lodge. Harry was always up for a round of golf and his favorite place to be was with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be missed dearly for generations to come.

Harry leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Jan; children, Mark Steele, Michael (Ruth) Steele, Mitchell (Kelli La Joie) Steele, and Michele (Thom) Zawerucha; grandchildren, Ryan Steele, Alexandra Steele, Kelsey Steele, Leah Zawerucha, and Rachel Zawerucha; siblings, Anna Mae (Dan) McGrew and Chuck (Marie) Steele; nephews, Dana (Kristen) McGrew, Dean (Julie) McGrew, and Dan (Debbie) McGrew; and several friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. Rev. Michele Hile will officiate with burial following at Ellington Township Cemetery. Harry’s family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
