Harvey LeRoy Schuette, 91, of Pigeon, Michigan, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023.
Harvey was born in Huron County on April 4, 1932 to the late Arnold Schuette Sr. and Amanda (Wurst) Schuette. He graduated from Pigeon High School, the class of 1950. Harvey was united in marriage to Doris Jean Siewert on February 13, 1960 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church-Berne. They celebrated their sixty-third anniversary this year. Harvey spent two years in the Army as a drill sergeant, and was honorably discharged in 1954. After the Army, Harvey worked as a carpenter at the Pigeon Lumber Yard, a trade he practiced and excelled at for many years. His heart and soul were put into every project, task, and job he did. He coached softball and Little League Baseball. He loved bowling, gardening, working on crewel embroidery, and simply cheering for the University of Michigan in any sport they played. He was also very involved with the school and church boards at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Doris; his children Linda Shepard of Lansing, Lisa (Rich Mullens) Schuette of Eagle River, Alaska, and Jeffrey (Kelly) Schuette of Oakton, Virginia; grandsons Zachary Shepard and Matthew Schuette; step-grandchildren Michael Mullens, Erin Mullens, Lucas (Brittany) Shepard and Emily Stepp; several step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; sisters Lorraine Metzger and Noel Wichert; sister-in-law Dianne Schuette; and brother-in-law Rodda House.
Harvey was preceded in death by his siblings: Genevieve Buschlen, Orville Schuette, and Arnold Schuette Jr., son-in-law Scott Shepard; brothers-in-law Donald Metzger, LeRoy Buschlen, Ronald Wichert and Marvin Siewert; and sisters-in-law Mildred Schuette and Joyce House.
Funeral services will be at 11:00am Friday, August 25 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church-Berne with Rev. Steven Neuman officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 Thursday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran
Church for the gymnasium heating project.
