Harvey Weiss, age 89 of Pigeon, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe.
He was born in Pigeon on May 5, 1922 to the late Simon and Anna (Kauten) Weiss, and was a 1940 Pigeon High School graduate. On February 16, 1946 he was united in marriage to Donna Marie Danks at Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2000.
Harvey served with the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division in Europe during World War II and received the Bronze Star for meritorious service. He was a life member of the Pigeon V.F.W. and was very proud of his service in the Army during the war, as well as his World War II artifacts and historical collection.
Harvey worked as a carpenter throughout his lifetime. He was active with 4-H as a woodworking leader, he was a Detroit Tiger fan, and he enjoyed bowling. He was a member of Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon, where he served on the church council and trustees.
A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Harvey is survived by three daughters, Connie (Michael) Eden of Bay Port, Lori (John) Smith of Pigeon, and Patti (Phil) McNeil of Midland; five grandchildren: Rebecca, Rachel, James, Benjamin, and Matthew; three step grandchildren, Christopher, Jamey, and Heather; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Dolly) Weiss of Elkton; sister-in-law, Roberta Danks; brother-in-law, Jack Danks; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, James D.; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Anne and Wendy Marie; a sister, Leona Wise; and brothers, Raymond, Robert, and an infant brother.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Cross Lutheran Church, Pigeon, with Rev. Timothy Loehrke, pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Cross Lutheran Church Building Fund or the Cross Memorial Garden Benches Fund.
