Hazel Iris Ames

Hazel Iris Ames, a lifelong resident of Caro, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Covenant HealthCare - Cooper in Saginaw. Hazel was born May 25, 1941 in Caro, the fifth of nine children born to the late Pearl & Elizabeth (Middleton) Carpenter. She was united in marriage with Richard Emery Ames on December 20, 1958 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro, and he preceded her in death on August 9, 1989. Hazel spent her life as a devoted homemaker and caregiver to her six children and seven grandchildren, whom she adored. She was a member of the Caro American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed helping with and playing Bingo there. She loved crafts of all kinds and orchestrated many great travel adventures with the family in their station wagon or the RV lovingly named the "White Elephant." Left to cherish her memory are six children and their spouses, Ronald Ames of Caro, Phyllis Sleight (Bob Karas) of Lake Orion, Loren & Laura Ames of Caro, Ralph & Amy Ames of Caro, Bryan & Candace Ames of Pinckney, Rebecca & Blair Reamy of Dexter; former daughter-in-law, Barb Ames; grandchildren, Brandi (Sleight) Groen, Danielle (Ames) Schumacher, Nicole Ames, Ashley Ames, Nate Ames, Grant Reamy, Noah Ames; three great-grandchildren; one sister and her husband, Mary & Dennis Randall of Kingston; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Hazel was preceded in death by seven siblings, Infant Orrie Carpenter, Nelson Carpenter, John Carpenter, Laurabelle Rhondo, Donna Carpenter, Arthur Carpenter, June Whithers; son-in-law, Arthur Sleight; and lifelong friend, Kaye LaPratt. In keeping with Hazel's wishes, cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Saturday, January 23, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro.
